The best techniques for producing wood effects are still the traditional ones: imitation of the grain of wood by application of semi-transparent glazes over a specially prepared insoluble surface or base. Wood colours are the product of study of age-old techniques and the experience of skilled decorators.
Idea wood colours combine this tradition with use of extremely long-lasting, resistant modern ingredients. These materials may successfully be used for decoration as they meet the essential requirements of transparency, density and volume. These requirements, identified, isolated and tested in Idea laboratories, explain the quality of today’s range of ten ready-to-use clear glazes. Cherry and Walnut reproduce woods just as well as the best mordant, with eight more colours to create any sort of grain or inlay. All colours enhance the natural grain of wood. For use on naturally light ash, pine or birch, or on oak or pear wood with a more obvious grain.
These water-based colours may be blended freely but require careful application; if the support is highly absorbent, the brushstroke will be visible. Imitating wood and painting wood effects is a basic ornamentation technique. Learning the method for imitating wood and having the colours on hand to do it allows you to choose the best variety for the task at hand. |
